FIFA World Cup 2022: Goitom to boost Red Sea Camels for Namibia tie

Swedish based professional Henok Goitom is expected to arrive in the country this week ahead of a crucial FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier against Namibia.

Head coach Efrem Alemseghed said on Monday after training that he expects the centre forward to arrive in time to boost the attack and morale of the team.

“Goitom is an important player for us because of his experience. We have been preparing for some time now and this week we shall intensify the training as more players arrive,” added the coach.

Eritrea will host Namibia’s Brave Warriors in the first leg on September 4th before the return leg on September 10th.

The other players expected to boost the Red Sea Camels include; Semai Eyob (Norway), Gologol Mebrantu (Hungary) and Swedish based Alexander Andu.

The others teams from the Council of east and central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region that will play in the preliminary stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifier include; Ethiopia, Somalia, Burundi, Tanzania, Djibouti, South Sudan and Rwanda.

The 28 teams will battle in the preliminary stage of the qualifiers before the 14 preliminary round winners and the 26 countries who received byes are split into 10 groups of four after a fresh draw with the first matches next March.

Matches of the group stages are expected to run from 23 until 31 March 2020 and 04 to 12 October 2020.

The winners from the 10 groups will then engage in five two-leg playoffs, with the winners qualifying for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
