Eritrea win bronze in FIFA sponsored Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup

A 67th minute goal by Biniam Mengsteab was enough to see Eritrea beat Sudan to finish third in the Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup on Saturday.
The Eritrea side cheered on by their fans leaving in Uganda dominated the play-off match at the Fufa Technical center before scoring the lone goal.
Sudan’s defenders were caught flat footed before Mengsteab slotted the low shot past the goalkeeper Mohamed Elnoor Adam.
Early in the first half Eritrea’s Ali Suleiman Ibrahim had his shot stopped, before Sudan’s Shihab Eldeen Siddiq Abdalrahman also had his attempt punched out of danger.
After a goalless first half the two teams came all out in seach of a winning goal and Eritrea took their chance. With 2 added minutes Sudan scored and the goal was cancelled for off-side.
The two teams had settled for a 3-3 draw in the group stage in Gulu Town
Haile Efrem Alemseghed, the Eritrean coach said he is happy his players have finished third. “We would have won the trophy if some players did not disappear from the Hotel,” added the coach.
Sudan’s coach Mohamed Mousa said the referee did not handle the match well.
