Eritrea team preparing well for regional CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup – Mahari

The general Secretary of the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF), Mehari Tesfai Hidru has said the national team is training well ahead of the regional U-23 Challenge Cup.

Ethiopia will host the U-23 CECAFA Challenge Cup slated to kick-off on July 17th in the town of Bahir Dar.

The tournament initially was meant to start on July 3rd, 2021, but was pushed forward because some member associations were facing some challenges.

“Our team which has been training for over three weeks now is responding well and they will travel for the tournament in Ethiopia on July 15th,” said Mehari.

According to the rules of the U-23 CECAFA Challenge Cup, every team will be allowed to field three senior players. Eritrea finished third in the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup held in Uganda.

Auka Gacheo, the CECAFA Executive Director told enffonline.com that already 11 teams have confirmed participation. The teams include; Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, Kenya, Eritrea, Djibouti, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia, South Sudan and guest side DR Congo.
