Burundi sink Eritrea in Pool B match

The Pool B match at the on-going CECAFA U-23 Challenge Cup between Eritrea and Burundi that was abandoned yesterday because of rain was completed today in Ethiopia.

After leading through Ismael Nsihimirimana’s goal on Tuesday, the Burundi team added two more goals today to win 3-0 at the Bahir Dar Stadium.

Filmon Tumzghi Esfha and Deyben Gibstawi Hinsteq had chances for Eritrea but failed to convert them.

After 53 minutes Abdourahmani Rukundo made it 2-0 for Burundi, while Issa Hakizimana headed in the third goal after 81 minutes to make it 3-0.

Eritrea’s captain Robiel Teclemichael Bahta also pushed forward and missed two chances.

Yohannes Tesfay Giday, Eritrea’s assistant coach said his team failed to match the Burundi team. “We did not take our chances and also failed to defend well. But this is a good learning experience,” added Giday.

Eritrea are now placed bottom of Pool B and out of contention to make it to the semi-final stage. The team will wait to see if they qualify to play classification games from 5th to 8th placed.
