New Executive Director Gacheo ready to work hard for CECAFA region

The newly appointed Executive Director of the Council of East and Central African Football (CECAFA), John Auka Gacheo has said he is ready to work hard for the region.
Gacheo, a former SuperSport East Africa General Manager was officially ushered to take up the position in the region body on March 11th during a ceremony in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
“I have been in football for sometime and I am prepared for the task ahead to help the region develop and promote football,” added Gacheo.
Gacheo took over from another Kenyan Nicholas Musonye who has been the Secretary General for the last 21 years. The post of executive director was created after the CECAFA Status was amended after advice from the Confederation of Africa Football (CAF).
The new Executive Director is now expected to plan with the competitions team to fix dates for the nine tournaments the region is meant to host this year.
Besides Tanzania which will host the CECAFA Kagame Club Championships, Rwanda and Sudan will host the Zonal qualifiers for the AFCON U-17 and U-20 respectively.
Djibouti for the first time will also host the CECAFA U-16 Boys Challenge Cup, while Burundi hosts the CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup and the CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup.
Uganda is expected to host the inaugural CECAFA U-20 Women’s Challenge Cup, while Rwanda will also host the CECAFA Women’s Challenge Cup.
Tanzania FA President, Wallace Karia was last year voted new CECAFA President during the Assembly in Kampala, Uganda. Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) President, Abraham Esayas is also a member of the CECAFA Board.
