CECAFA SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP: We do not fear Uganda – Alemseghed

Eritrea’s head coach Efrem Haile Alemseghed has said they do not fear the Uganda Cranes team at all.

The 14-time Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup winners Uganda will battle Eritrea in the final of the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Thursday at the StarTimes Stadium, Lugogo.

Eritrea shocked defending champions Kenya 4-1, while Uganda ejected Kilimanjaro Stars of Tanzania 1-0 at the semi final stage on Tuesday.

But Eritrea’s coach Alemseghed has now made it clear that although Uganda defeated them 2-0 in the Group stage, his team is more than motivated to win during their second face-off in the tournament.

“We took time and studied the Kenyan team before we beat them in the semis. Now we have also studied the Ugandan team well and know how we shall approach that game,” added the coach.

Alemseghed said that his players are all hungry to win the Cup for the first time. “The best Eritrea has performed before in the tournament is reaching the semi final in 2004. Now we are in the final and need to win,” added the coach.

In the Group stage Eritrea beat Burundi 1-0 and also picked a goalless draw against Somalia. They lost 2-0 to Uganda Cranes.

Over a month ago Eritrea beat Sudan 1-0 to win bronze at the CECAFA U-20 Challenge Cup held in Njeru in Uganda.
