Eritrea humble Djibouti 3-0 in CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup

Eritrea moved to second place in Group A at the on-going 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup after a 3-0 win over Djibouti on Friday.

Abreham Isayas scored for Eritrea after 10 minutes. The Djibouti team tried to defend in numbers but the highly passing Eritrean side continued to dominate the match.

Ali Suleiman netted two second goals to send Eritrea to six points on the log and second behind Uganda who have already qualified for the semi finals.

“I am very happy that after losing to Uganda in our last game my boys came all out today well motivated and played good football. Our target is to reach the final of this tournament,” said Eritrean coach Efrem Haile Alemseghed.

Julie Mette, the the Djibouti coach said they lost to a good experienced team. “Eritrea played good football and had control of the game for 90 minutes,” added Mette.

In the second Group A game Omar Abdulahi netted the only goal as Somalia picked their first win in the tournament.

Hosts Uganda lead Group A with 9 points, while Eritrea are now second with 6 points. Eritrea will face Somalia in their last Group A game on Sunday.
