Eritrea fails Uganda test in CECAFA U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup

Eritrea suffered a 10-0 defeat to Uganda in the inaugural 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup on Friday.

The third set of matches played at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru saw Burundi pick their first win against Djibouti who they best 8-0.

Ineza Bora netted four goals, while Lydia Kalenzo scored a hat-trick and Neem Nzohbonayo scored one.

In the second game the Tanzanian team stopped Kenya’s unbeaten run winning 3-1. Thebea Aidano Munga, Joyce Meschak (p) and Aisha Masaka scored for Tanzania, while Kenya netted through Fassila Adhiambo.

The last game of the day saw Uganda attack in numbers against Eritrea to score 10 unanswered goals. Fauzia Najjemba netted a hat-trick, while Juliet Nalukenge and Kevin Nakacwa scored two goals each. Margaret Kunihira, Catherine Nagadya and Stelle Musubika also got their names on the score sheet.

“This tournament is all about exposure for our girls. It is a very good platform to get these matches for our team,” said Eritrea’s coach Mekonnen Zewde after the match.

Eritrea will next face Djibouti on Sunday, while Burundi battle Kenya and Tanzania take table leaders Uganda.
