Eritrea remains lowly placed in latest FIFA rankings

Eritrea has remained lowly ranked in position 205 in the latest FIFA rankings released on Thursday.

In the rankings released at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Eritrea now have 856 points and remain bottom in Africa and the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) region.

Eritrea remains low in ranking because the national team does not enter in several international competitions. Eritrea only played in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Namibia. They were not entered for the 2021 Total Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifiers.

Eritrea will hope to improve in the FIFA ranking when they participate in the 2019 CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup slated for December 7-19th in Uganda.

Uganda remain the highest ranked nation in the CECAFA region at 77th with 1321 points. Kenya are second in the region at 106th place in the world and Sudan are 128th and third in CECAFA region.

South Sudan who improved in the last rankings this time dropped by seven places to 169th with 983 points.

Senegal are the highest ranked African team at 20 with 1555 points, while Tunisia is second and 27th in the world with 1506 points.

Belgium with 1765 points maintained their top spot in the rankings, while France are second on 1733 points.
