CECAFA 2019 SENIOR CHALLENGE CUP: Eritrea to face Uganda, Ethiopia

Eritrea will face hosts Uganda Cranes in the 2019 Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup that runs December 7-19th in Kampala.

The draws made on Sunday at the Tiffany Diamond Hotels in Dar es salaam, Tanzania pitted Eritrea against Uganda, Burundi and Ethiopia in Group A.

The draws were conducted in the presence of the Cecafa secretary General, Nicholas Musonye, Uganda FA Acting President Justus Mugisha, Uganda FA second Vice President Darius Mugoye, the media, coaches and cecafa officials.

Guest side Democratic Republic of Congo were placed in Group B that will have Sudan, South Sudan and Somalia, while the defending champions Kenya are in Group C together with Tanzania, Djibouti and Zanzibar.

The best two teams from each group together with the best two losses will qualify for the quarter finals.

“We are happy to have DR Congo to spice up our tournament and Ugandan officials are here to assure us that they are ready to host the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup and the Cecafa U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup,” said Musonye.

In the draws for the Cecafa U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup also conducted in Dar es Salaam, hosts Uganda are placed alongside Ethiopia, Eritrea and South Sudan in Group A, while Group B has Tanzania, Burundi and Djibouti.

While the Cecafa Senior Challenge Cup will run December 7-19th in the capital Kampala, the Cecafa U-17 Women’s Challenge Cup will run  December 9-18th in Njeru. In October this year Eritrea finished third in the Cecafa U-20 Boys Challenge Cup held in Uganda. Tanzania beat kenya to emerge champions.
