Yosief Tesfai Mewael netted a second half goal to rescue a point for Eritrea against hosts Uganda at the 2019 Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu on Saturday.

Uganda had taken the lead of the Group A match with an Ivan Bogere goal after 37 minutes.

But the Eritrean team returned strongly after recess to push the home sides on the back footbl before Mewael found the equalizer.

“But I am happy that we managed to get a point from the hosts,” said Eritrea’s coach Efrem Alemseghed who also handles the national senior side. Eritrea will be back in action on Monday against Group A leaders Sudan.

In an earlier Group A match Sudan humbled Djibouti 4-0, while the Group C game between South Sudan and Burundi ended 3-3 at the Fufa Technical Centre Stadium in Njeru.

On Sunday Ethiopia will face Tanzania, while Kenya take on Zanzibar in Group matches in Njeru.
