Eritrea battle hosts Uganda in Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup

The regional Cecafa U-20 Challenge Cup will kick-off today with three matches on card.

Sudan will battle Djibouti in the opening Group A match at the Pece War Memorial Stadium in Gulu. Eritrea will open their campaign against hosts Uganda in the second game at the same Stadium.

Eritrea’s coach Alemseged Efem said although they have not had enough rest since arrival in Uganda, the team has prepared well. “We know facing a host is not an easy task, but we shall play our hearts out,” added the coach.

Uganda’s coach Morley Byekwaso said their target is to win the trophy. “We want to make sure we start well which will give the boys good momentum,” added Byekwaso.

At the Fufa Technical Centre in Njeru Burundi will face South Sudan in the first Group C match.

Nicholas Musonye, the secretary General said on Friday that they are happy with the facilities and ready to witness good football on the pitch.

“These youth football tournaments will continue to help our youngsters develop better because they are the stars of tomorrow,” added Musonye.

The tournament sponsored by FIFA has attracted 11 teams excluding Rwanda who have a busy schedule.
