FIFA WORLD CUP 2022 qualifiers: Namibia eliminate Eritrea’s Red Sea Camels

The Red Sea Camels of Eritrea have been eliminated from the on-going FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

A goal in each half for the Brave Warriors of Namibia on Tuesday night at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura saw Eritrea suffer a 2-0 loss and bow out on a 4-1 goal aggregate at the preliminary stage.

Absalom Iimbondi who missed the first leg game in Asmara last week scored on 24 minutes before skipper Peter Shalulile netted late in the second half.

Eritrea also had some chances to score with the closest falling to skipper ‎Henok Goitom with a free-kick missing the target by inches.

Efrem Alemseghed, Eritrea’s head coach blamed the loss on poor defending again. “We did not defend so well and got punished,” said the coach after the game.

While Eritrea were eliminated other teams from the Council of East and central African Football Associations (Cecafa) region that made it past the preliminary stage include; Tanzania, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Sudan and Rwanda.

The draw for the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2022 qualifiers is expected to take place in November or December.
