CAF boss Ahmad meets Eritrean President Afwerki

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Ahmad Ahmad on Saturday morning met and held talks with Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki in his office in Adi Haqlo in Asmara.
Ahmad who watched the Cecafa U-15 Challenge Cup final on Friday thanked Eritrea for hosting the inaugural tournament for the youngsters in the region.
The CAF President also noted that organizing sports competitions demand good will of politicians in a country and Eritrea has showed this as well.
The Eritrean Commissioner of Sports and Culture Ambassador Zemede Tekle and Eritrean National Football Federation (ENFF) President Esayas Abraham also attended the meeting.
CAF President Ahmad also visited the family of Eritrea football icon Tesfaye Gebreyesus to console them on his demise. The former ENFF president passed away on 24 August in Asmara.
Tesfaye as he was fondly referred to led the Ethiopian FA and the Eritrea National Football Federation (ENFF). He also served CAF in various capacities such as Match Commissioner and Referee Assessor, and as a member of the Organising Committee for the African Nations Championship (CHAN).
As a referee, he officiated a number of high profile games including seven editions of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) – 1970, 1974, 1978, 1980, 1984, 1986 and 1988. He also handled the final of the 1970 AFCON between host Sudan and Ghana in Khartoum.
